It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jeffrey "Jeff" (or known by his daughter Tiffany as “Wolf Head” or “Neffrey”) McLaughlin, who left us on August 1, 2023 at the age of 69. Known fondly as Jeff by many, Jeffrey’s name origin and meaning was: "peaceful traveler", journeying through life with charisma, humor, and a joy that made him the life of any room he entered.
Born on October 5, 1953, Jeffrey's life journey began in Mount Braddock, PA. He was a graduate of North Union High School now known as Laurel Highlands School District in Uniontown, PA. His path took many turns, but he always remained true to himself, bringing laughter and joy wherever he went. This journey ultimately landed him in Billings, MT during his time serving the United States Air Force where he made his final destination his home for more than 52 years of his life.
Jeffrey served in the Air Force from 1971 to 1975. He was a police officer for the Montana highway patrol in Billings and later Billings airport police. His legacy as a public servant, father, brother, husband, and friend will forever be remembered by those who knew him. Jeffrey was a devoted fan of the Steelers team, and enjoyed indulging in his favorite treat, Redstone Chocolates. He had a love for law-enforcement shows, wrestling, and football. His vibrant personality and constant jokes made him a joy to be around, and he will be sorely missed.
Jeffrey is survived by his loving wife Karen McLaughlin of 17 years (Billings, MT), his daughters Tiffany and Maegan McLaughlin (both of Billings, MT: daughters of Jeff and Kate), his sister Paulette Hardy (Mt. Braddock, PA), his brother Danny McLaughlin (Connellsville, PA), and brother Robert McLaughlin (Uniontown, PA). He leaves behind his sister-in-laws: Colleen McLaughlin and Lynn Stone McLaughlin (both of Uniontown, PA). Jeffrey is also survived by his Stepchildren Rob/Kathy Reed and Patrick/Angie McClain. He is survived by step-grandchildren Tyler and Trenton Reed. In addition to these loved ones, Jeffrey is survived by many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was predeceased by his father Clarence “Bud” McLaughlin, his mother Esther “Dot” McLaughlin, his brother Clarence “Buddy” McLaughlin, his sister-in-law Cindy Lou McLaughlin, and brother-in-law Randy Hardy.
Each life Jeffrey touched was brightened by his presence. His memory will live on in our hearts as we remember a man who was not just the life of the room, but also a beloved family member and cherished friend. His legacy as a public servant, father, brother, husband, and friend is a testament to the wonderful life he led.
There will be a graveside service with military honors at Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel on Monday, August 7, at 10 a.m.
